The Marvel Cinematic Universe has once again broken the internet — this time with the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer crossing one billion views, the first movie trailer in history to do so. The trailer dropped on March 17 and hit the milestone within four days, driven by colossal global interest in Tom Holland’s return. The record has reset expectations for what blockbuster marketing can achieve.
The trailer’s 24-hour viewership of 718.6 million was itself a record-shattering figure. It demolished the mark set by Deadpool & Wolverine’s teaser at 365 million views and also outdid Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 355.5 million first-day views. The Grand Theft Auto VI trailer’s jaw-dropping 475 million views, widely considered untouchable, was also left behind.
Measurement firm WaveMetrix confirmed the count had reached 1.1 billion by Tuesday. It is the first time any movie trailer — or entertainment trailer of any kind — has crossed the billion-view threshold. The achievement places Brand New Day in a league of its own within the entertainment marketing world.
Scheduled to open July 31, Brand New Day follows the events of No Way Home, one of the highest-grossing superhero films ever made. The sequel is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, featuring Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo. Indian audiences will enjoy it in six regional languages.
The trailer’s emotional story — Peter Parker living in anonymity after the memory spell from No Way Home — resonated powerfully with longtime fans. Social media lit up with memes, broken hearts, and funny titles. As Brand New Day prepares to hit theatres, it is already being spoken of as one of the most consequential Marvel films ever made.
