Chansiri Seats Removed as Owls Enter Administration Under New Control

Date:

In a highly symbolic move, seats spelling out “Chansiri” in the North Stand at Hillsborough were being removed less than an hour after Sheffield Wednesday was placed into administration. The act signals the end of Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, which concluded with him appointing administrators Begbies Traynor.
While fans celebrated the owner’s departure, the club was immediately hit with a 12-point EFL deduction. This sinks the Owls to -6 points at the bottom of the Championship, 15 points adrift of safety, and makes relegation highly likely.
The club’s financial state is dire, with “years of financial mismanagement” leading to a $pounds{}$1 million HMRC debt and unpaid wages for players and staff. The situation has been “deteriorating sharply” since the summer, with the club living “hand-to-mouth.”
Manager Henrik Pedersen met with the new administrators, framing the crisis as an opportunity for a “fresh restart.” He acknowledged the “insecurity” among staff but insisted there is now “a feeling of looking towards better days.” He also vowed to “keep fighting” against relegation.
The Supporters Trust, which had led boycotts against Chansiri, is now calling for fans to return. “The phase of resistance has achieved its goal – now begins the phase of renewal,” a statement read, highlighting the “urgent need is stability and income.”
