Trump Claims US Strikes Halted Iran-Israel Conflict, Cites WWII Nuclear Example

Date:

President Donald Trump asserted on Wednesday that decisive US military action against Iranian nuclear facilities brought an end to the recent 12-day war between Iran and Israel. He controversially drew a parallel between these strikes and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, suggesting a similar decisive impact on the conflict’s conclusion.
Trump defended his decision to target Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, arguing that the devastation inflicted forced Tehran to abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions. He stated that Iran “went through hell” during the conflict, implying this experience would deter any future attempts at uranium enrichment for military purposes. Despite intelligence reports suggesting otherwise, Trump maintained the complete destruction of these sites.
The 12-day war, initiated by Israel’s bombing of Iranian nuclear sites and the killing of top scientists, saw both nations exchange severe blows. Israel claimed its actions were to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while Iran maintained its enrichment programs were solely for peaceful energy generation. The conflict resulted in significant civilian casualties and property damage.
Trump’s role in brokering a ceasefire was also highlighted, with the truce reportedly holding on Wednesday. His remarks underscore a continued focus on his administration’s impact on Middle Eastern geopolitics, particularly concerning Iran’s nuclear program and regional stability.
