Trump Says US Profits From High Oil But Stopping Iran Nukes Is His Real Goal

Date:

President Trump offered a distinctly American perspective on the global oil crisis Thursday, noting that rising crude prices generate revenue for the United States as the world’s top producer — before making clear that his deeper concern is ensuring Iran never acquires nuclear weapons. The remarks, delivered via Truth Social, came as global oil markets recorded what the IEA described as the biggest supply disruption in history. Trump’s framing positioned the economic disruption as a manageable side effect of a critical security mission.
The conflict has severely curtailed Gulf oil output, with producers cutting roughly 10 million barrels per day — approximately 10% of global demand. Brent crude rose as much as 10% Thursday to briefly breach $100 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate climbed toward $96. The IEA coordinated the release of 400 million barrels of emergency reserves among its member nations, and the US pledged 172 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
In his Truth Social post, Trump acknowledged the financial benefit that higher oil prices provide to the United States, but he juxtaposed this with what he described as a far greater priority: stopping Iran — an “evil Empire” — from obtaining nuclear weapons that could destroy the Middle East and destabilize the world. He pledged with characteristic conviction that he would never allow this to happen.
Trump’s messaging serves multiple audiences. For domestic supporters, it frames the conflict as both economically advantageous and morally necessary. For international partners, it signals that the administration will not be pressured into a premature ceasefire by oil market conditions. For Iran, it delivers a stark warning that the nuclear issue is non-negotiable. However, the president’s simultaneous suggestion that the war may be concluding and his assertion that it is “not finished yet” continue to muddy the waters.
Outside the White House on Wednesday, Trump told reporters that American forces have delivered an extraordinary level of military pressure on Iran. He added that he is not worried about any Iranian attack on American soil. With the conflict ongoing and no diplomatic resolution visible, global markets and governments are left to navigate profound uncertainty.
