Elon Musk Eyes Key Congressional Races for New ‘America’ Party

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has revealed an ambitious strategy for his newly formed “America” party: targeting a select number of congressional seats. Musk believes that by focusing on just a few Senate and House races, his party could become the decisive swing vote on critical legislation, ensuring the “true will of the people” is reflected. This approach stems from the current razor-thin margins in both chambers of Congress.
Musk’s announcement of the “America party” on X, the social media platform he owns, followed a poll he conducted on Independence Day. A significant majority of respondents supported the idea of a new political force to challenge the established two-party system, which Musk often refers to as a “uniparty.” He asserted that the current system is failing to serve the public and is instead “bankrupting our country with waste & graft.”
The timing of Musk’s political foray is notable, coming after a public spat with President Donald Trump over a recently signed spending bill. While Musk financially backed Trump’s 2024 campaign and even led an unofficial “department of government efficiency” (Doge) under his administration, he grew incensed by Trump’s support for the $3.3 trillion debt-increasing bill. Musk had threatened to support primary challenges against any lawmaker who voted for it.
The narrow margin of the spending bill’s passage – 218 to 214 in the House and a 50-50 Senate deadlock broken by JD Vance – underscores Musk’s belief that a small number of strategic wins could indeed shift the balance of power. Trump, however, has issued stern warnings to Musk, even publicly discussing the possibility of deporting him and cutting government contracts for his companies, highlighting the high stakes of this burgeoning political rivalry.
