Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reassured that Türkiye’s capital markets remain resilient despite recent turmoil in the investment fund sector. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that the issues affecting the market are confined to a specific segment and do not pose a broader risk to the financial system.
Authorities in Türkiye are actively managing the situation, with Erdoğan highlighting steps being taken to safeguard financial stability and protect investors. He noted that the government is overseeing the orderly liquidation of impacted funds and is working on measures to prevent similar issues from arising in the future. Legal action is also being pledged against those responsible for destabilizing market activities.
Investigations were launched earlier this month into potential share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks, which led to financial losses and put pressure on some investment funds to redeem their holdings. In response, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that legal proceedings are ongoing and that efforts to maintain market stability will continue.
Erdoğan is expected to convene with economic officials and relevant institutions to further assess the situation and discuss additional measures to address challenges within the fund market. This proactive approach aims to bolster investor confidence and ensure the robustness of Türkiye’s financial landscape.
